What video game character should I dress up as for a party?

My best friends' 19th birthday party is coming up and she is having a video game themed party where you must dress up as a character from any game. I'm a fan of Mario and the Zelda games the problem is I don't have much money. My other friend and I are going I thought since I'm short and fat and she's tall and skinny we could go as Mario and Luigi but it costs like �40 for a costume and I don't see the point of spending that much on something I'll wear once or twice a year. Any help? z
