How is it that our ancestors spoke of "spaceships" before they could understand flight?

I have seen many of the pictures from various ancient people, including the Sumerians, that modern people claim show space ships. None of them is convincing at all. It is only wishful thinking by a some small number of modern people who want to believe it that makes them say they look like space ships.
